Venessa Timmerman has a background in biomedical informatics and was instrumental in establishing a data management system for the Free State Department of Health’s antiretroviral treatment programme. She has also implemented a laboratory information management system for two HIV research laboratories. Her skills include database design, drawing up of data analysis plans, report-writing, implementation of quality control processes and fieldworker training and supervision. She moved to the Knowledge Translation Unit in 2007 where she is continuing her support of the Free State antiretroviral data system. She is currently working towards a doctorate on how information systems can improve the quality of HIV healthcare.
